1970’s Hair

In the seventies, many never-before-seen hair cut styles were beginning to rise as modern dos. This was a decade of a lot of experimenting and need for freedom of speech, and thanks to the blow-dryer everything was possible. There are some 1970’s hair that are very distinctive and as soon as you see them you know were they came from.

All around the world you could feel a sentiment to stand against government systems and feel free to express whatever anyone wanted. A particular movement began to start in London called Punk. I bet everyone can identify the hair dos of punks so you know what kinds of hair styles were modern; some of them are even being used today as well.

The Mohawk is perhaps the most popular do of this era. Just a straight line of long hair evoked to the air, passing only through the middle of your head with no other hair to the sides. That is a Mohawk. There are many substances you can use to raise you Mohawk and have it maintain in the air and these are:

  • Mouse
  • Gel
  • Hairspray
  • Soap

Depending on the length you will need a lot of each of these. The soap might seem to be out of place, but many people don’t know that if you use soap with sodium your hair gets really stiff. This can ultimately do some damage to your hair, but it is a cheap and easy way to make it to stand up.

Other hair styles of this movement are spiked hair and completely shaved head. Shaved heads are distinctive for hooligans and skinheads, which are another group of people that emerged at that time.

Apart from the punks, other famous dos made it to the hall of fame, like the Farrah Fawcett do in Charlie’s Angels which is called a perm and the all star afro.
